Markus Summerer

Portrait Markus Summerer

Whilst Markus’ closest mates at high school went on to become a biochemist, doctor and banker, venturing into the ambiguous creative world was always a clear and intentional choice. Being genetically affected by obsessively passionate hobby photographers in the family, Markus underwent several years of professional training resulting in full time employment at one of the largest car photographic studios in Germany.  It was there that he gained an in-depth technical understanding of lighting reflective objects at any scale, from 30 tonne Mercedes trucks to diamond jewellery together with a passion for smooth gradients and precise highlights which are still reflected in his work today. After leaving the car photographic studio, Markus explored other fields of photography and worked at one of Stuttgart’s best known interior and architecture photography studios until his move to Australia.

Capturing architecture and interiors commercially for leading home builders such as Rawson Homes and interiors companies including Baksana and Sheridan Australia, has provided the opportunity to showcase his clients’ homes and products in their best light and Markus’ commitment to the perfect shot is well known.  The long and incomplete list of clients include: Arnotts, AW Edwards, Bellriver Homes, Bisley, Bupa, Canon, Caroma, Champion Homes, Citizen Watches, CSR, Electrolux, Fujitsu, Hitachi, James Hardie, Krispy Kreme, Pfizer, Twinings and Unilever.

Contributing to social impact projects is an important part of Markus’ career. A highlight was a partnership in 2014 with a talented book production team to photograph a stunning 250 page cookbook on location in Cambodia and in the studio in Sydney for an NGO supporting education projects in Cambodia.

Markus divides his time between Sydney and Byron Bay.

Thank you. I'll be in touch soon.
